A Dog's Breakfast *****
Written & Directed by David Hewlett

Even for a low budget movie A Dog's Breakfast was an excellent film! It was both witty and funny - in a dark sort of way. The movie had a great cast of actors and was very well written.

David Hewlett(Best known for his role of Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis) played the role of Patrick - a mentally unstable jealous older brother. Hewlett's acting was incredible as always and the character Patrick was just as great. The rest of the cast included Kate Hewlett as Marylin, Paul McGillion as Ryan, Rachel Luttrel as Ratcha, Amanda Byram as Elite, Michael Lenic as Zero, Christopher Judge as Chris, and of course Mars played himself as Patrick's pet dog.

** Warning: Spoilers bellow **

The movie starts out with Patrick's(David Hewlett) sister Marylin(Kate Hewlett) coming to Patrick's house for Christmas. She brings her fiancee Ryan(Paul McGillion) - an actor in a fictional SciFi series called Starcrossed - over without telling Patrick. Right off the bat Patrick dislikes Ryan and when he hears that Ryan is his sisters fiancee he gets very jealous. Patrick tries to split Ryan and Marylin up, and it quickly turns to Patrick trying to murder Ryan when he overhears Ryan talking on the phone and takes the conversation out of context. After several failed attempts trying to kill Ryan, Ryan eventually gets himself killed and Patrick's guilty conscious causes him to get overly obsessed with Ryan's dead body which doesn't seem to want to stay burried.

Overall I enjoyed this movie a lot and would recommend it to anyone that doesn't mind a little dark humour. It is very funny and very original.
